testing the foam & feedback |
|
we use a State-of-the-art UV inhibitor to keep our blanks white for longer. We are continually testing and doing similar tests on other brands. However, to satisfy ourselves we enlisted independent lab tests. These have shown that our foam is consistently stronger weight for weight than the competition. While good in themselves, these tests do not tell the whole story which is where shapers and surfers come in. We have always encouraged constructive criticism as a matter of policy, since the result has without fail led to constant improvement. The ‘take it or leave it’ attitude is not for us.
One very consistent comment that we get from our customers is the seeming lack of deck delamination in surfboards made from our blanks. This, we believe, is due to the more progressive fail characteristics of our foam, whereas our competitors tend to fail catastrophically when overstressed. Tests show that not only does Homeblown foam fail later, but it maintains its strength and does not suffer catastrophic cell failure indicated by the down curves shown on the imports. Also the state-of-the-art UV inhibitor we use in our foam keeps it from yellowing for longer. Our unique chemistry makes it about 10 times more waterproof than other surfboard foam. This means ding repairs are much less urgent. "I have been using HB foam since they started and have always
been impressed with their attitude and innovation. Although not all their
experiments and formulations have been the dogs' bollocks, the last 6
months have shown huge improvements in weight, cell size and stiffness.
The blanks are as good as any and certainly a lot stronger, even the stringers
are straight!"
